This article covers Site Conditions. In order to modify the map terrain with excavation or remove default map objects like buildings and trees, creating a Site Condition is required. A Site Condition is essentially "a piece of the map" for a Project with a Google 3D Map Tile map type. Once a piece of the map is captured as a Site Condition, it can be attached to a milestone like any other object.

How to Create a New Site Condition

There are multiple ways to start the creation of a Site Condition:

  1. Extract from Terrain: Go to Terrain → Extract Site Condition (1) to define the area you want to trim.

  2. Create from the Tree: Add a new Site Condition directly under the Site Condition node in the tree (4).

  3. Automatic Creation: A Site Condition is automatically created per excavation to match the excavation boundary. Go to Terrain → Earthwork (2) and choose an operation from the Add Operation tab (3).

  4. When manually creating a Site Condition you will need to define the area by creating a sketch. Click in the map to set the sketch elevation and sketch the area you want to extract as a Site Condition. Click confirm to finalize the Sketch.

  5. The area you draw will be removed from the terrain, and a new Site Condition will appear in the tree. It’s hidden by default, but you can choose to reveal and sequence it in any milestone from the timeline section in the side sheet -deselect "Hide from all milestones" in the side sheet, its is selected by default.

đź’ˇNote: When you create an Earthwork Operation, a Site Condition is automatically generated in the tree and in 3D. Excavation operations create these Site Conditions to move terrain or map objects out of the way. Auto-generated Site Conditions can be edited to allow for modifications and sequencing.

Fixing Local Distortions Caused by Site Conditions

After creating a site condition (1) you may notice that the area of the map tile surrounding the site condition's boundary has a tendency to become distorted/disfigured (2). This usually happens when the site condition boundary cuts through a building (3) or other vertical protrusion. Some times distortions occur within the site condition footprint -the area becomes elevated, while surrounding remain at the correct elevation. To counter-act most distortion: capture the surrounding area in a new Site Condition, sketch the shape so that the boundaries of the new site condition are on a flat area as much as possible as horizontal/flat areas are less prone to distortion (4). The resulting second site condition will undo any distortions (5) -by equally distorting the surrounding area.

đź’ˇNote: Upon creation, site conditions are not visible. Change the "Hide from all Milestones" option by editing the Site Conditions settings in its side sheet, Right Click > Edit

đź’ˇTip: You can use zones to fill in any holes, or apply a different appearance to the map to touch up any oddities that appear as result of creating a site condition. Be sure to check the Resources > Site Conditions category to replace any vegetation, utilities or street furniture that was removed.
