Using Smart Templates

Available with the following Subscriptions: Premium, Enterprise
Available for the following Project Roles: Editor, Admin

💡Note: Smart Templates are currently an experimental feature while we refine them. While in the experimental phase it must first be enabled from User Settings > 🧪 Experimental Features.

Smart Templates let you place multiple instances of different object types in a single action, based on a template/ruleset. Use a pre-existing sample template or create a new template using the visual programming interface. Smart Templates can include Resources, Zones, Lines and more, they are not limited to a single object type.

Select a Smart Template

Smart Templates can be selected from the Resource library, or a new one can be created, to learn create new templates, see Creating Smart Templates.

  1. Click Resources (1) from the Toolbar, then click Resource Library (2).
  1. Open the Resource category dropdown (3) and select Smart Templates (4). You can also search for them by name.
  1. Review the available Smart Templates then select the template you want to use.

Place and use the template

Once a Smart Template has been selected or created it may be placed in a Scenario. Depending on the template further edits will be required to define things like the path or coverage area and other adjustments to height, number of instances and more.

  1. After selecting a smart template click in the 3D scene to roughly place the template.
  2. Adjust it as needed:
    • Move or rotate the template with the handles.
    • Set the required values/adjusted the required input in the Customize inputs panel. Depending on the template that was selected the input types will vary and may require the user to edit sketches (1), adjust and integer (2) and others.
    • If the template needs a sketch (road, zone, parking lot, pool), draw or edit the Sketch in the scene.
  3. Click Next (3).
  1. Uncheck any objects you do not want to keep.
  2. Click Confirm (2) to save the objects to the scene.

💡Note: After clicking Confirm, you cannot edit the template again. Each object is saved on its own and is no longer linked to the template and would have to be edited independently.
