Enhancing the Site Plan Background Image (2D)

The background image of your Site Plan Scenario can be improved by using a 2D satellite image. These can be exported from any satellite database. We suggest using Google Earth Pro as it provides a clear image reliably and is free.

Step 1: Exporting the Background Image from Google Earth Pro

First download and install Google Earth Pro: download Google Earth Pro Once you have it installed, follow these steps:

  1. Input the address of your project or position the map so the boundaries of the image cover the whole are you want to export
  2. Click on the "X" to remove the pin from the view
  3. Deactivate all additional layers to clear the satellite image
  4. Once you position the image correctly, make sure to Reset Tilt and Compass to produce a flat image with no angle. This has to be done every time you move the view.
  5. Click on the Save Image button
  6. Set the resolution to Maximum
  7. Click on Save Image to download a new satellite image

Step 2: Importing & positioning the Satellite image in cmBuilder

Steps:

  3. Identify 2 reference points for alignment. First, choose those 2 points on the newly imported background image, and then select the same 2 points on the map.
  4. Click Confirm.
  5. Set the Opacity to 100%, position the image below the map, and turn ON Project on Terrain.
