Learn how to import your Project Schedule for the bulk creation of Milestones.
Supported File Types
cmBuilder accepts the following file formats when importing a schedule file as part of Project Schedule creation.
- Microsoft Project: .mpx, .mpp, .mpd, .xml
- Primavera P6: .xer, .xml
- Asta / Powerproject: .pp, .xml
- Excel and others (should follow the template linked in the app through the Import Schedule step): .csv, .xlsx, .prx, .stx, .pep, .pod, .fts, .gan, .ppx, .plf, .cdpx, .sp, .gan, .sdef, .schedule_grid, .pc
Importing a File
To import a Project Schedule file into cmBuilder:
- Click Project Schedule (1) from Command Bar.
- From the side menu, click Import Schedule (2).
- Click Upload File (3) or select a previously uploaded schedule from the list.
- Click Load (4) to finish importing your schedule.
Importing a CSV File
Creating your cmBuilder project schedule from a CSV import is a four step process.
- Click on Project Schedule from the main toolbar on the left. A side panel will appears on the right displaying the current schedule as well as 2 tabs: Download and Import Schedule.
- Click on the Download Schedule tab and a window will pop for you to select a location to save the template. Choose a location and hit Save. (Depending on your browser settings you may not be presented with the option to select the location, in which case check your downloads folder.)
- Open the newly downloaded template .csv file and populate it with your schedule data, then save and close the file:

- The Name and Start date (yyyy-mm-dd) fields are both required.
- The End date (yyyy-mm-dd) and PairingID fields are both optional

- Back in cmBuilder click on the Import Schedule tab, you can now drag and drop the populates template .csv file on the right side panel to finish importing your schedule.
Importing an XML File
- cmBuilder is only compatible with Microsoft Project XML schema. Please select the latest version of Project XML export when creating files from software like Primavera P6, Asta and others.
Selecting Tasks
From the imported Schedule, this step lets you select the task dates to create and link to Milestones.
- Once uploaded, choose which dates in the schedule to create and link to Milestones by selecting from the following options:
- Check Start Date box - Create a Milestones using the start date
- Check End Date box - Create a Milestones using the end date
- Check both boxes - Create a Milestones for both the start and end date
- Use the search bar to find specific tasks by name then click Next
Reviewing Milestones
After selecting the tasks, this step lets you review the selection, change names and other details before creating Milestones:
On this page, you should review the proposed Milestones from the Task linking summary (1) before the creation of the Milestones.
💡 Note: It's advised to resolve conflicts of Milestones with equal dates by changing their dates or merging them into one.
- Click on the pencil icon (2) beside the task name to change the name of the new Milestone.
- From the drop drown menu in cmBuilder milestones column (3), you can select Create new milestones or reuse any of the existing Milestones.
- Milestone Status (4) is displayed. You can also check which milestones are "NEW" (synced to a schedule file) and which are EXISTING (created in cmBuilder)
- Click on the three dots and select Remove task (5) to remove a Milestone
- Click on Reset Changes (6) to reset Milestone and task assignments to the initial stage of the Review milestones page
- Toggle on Append start/finish to milestone names (7), to add a suffix to the Milestone name and help identify which date was used as a reference
- Click Back (8) to return to the previous step or Click Apply to implement and Milestone will be created
Exporting a Schedule
To download an existing schedule in cmBuilder:
- Click on Project Schedule from the left side tool bar or press Ctrl + M
- Click on the Download Schedule tab and a window will pop for you to select a location to save the schedule. Choose a location and hit Save. (Depending on your browser settings you may not be presented with the option to select the location, in which case check your downloads folder.)
- A .csv file of the existing schedule will be generated.
