The Selection Trap feature allows users to multi-select objects in the site plan (select multiple objects at the same time to edit).
Currently, the object types you can select using a Selection Trap include surrounding massing, BIM models, and resources. Depending on which object is first inside the lasso box, only that specific object type will be selected while the others will be filtered out.
💡Tip: To ensure only objects of the desired type are selected with a Selection Trap, first click on an object of that type, then draw a selection trap in the viewer.
Here are the steps to create a Selection Trap to capture a BIM Elements:
- First, click any BIM Element on the BIM Model. This ensures that only BIM Element objects will be selected.
- Hold the Ctrl key.
- Click and hold the left mouse button.
- Drag a box around the building elements you want to select.
- Repeat the process while still holding the Ctrl key to make multiple selections.
Tips
To improve your Selection Trap process, follow these additional tips:
- Either use the selection filtering described in step 1 above, or temporary hide other object types for an unobstructed lasso selection.
- Use the Orthographic view setting to get a 2D perspective of the building, making it easier to select levels.
- You can also press Ctrl + Shift to create Deselection Traps, use these to reduce your overall selection.
Hiding Selection
Here are a few options to hide the building elements once selected:
- Right-click on the selection and click Temporary Hide or use the key shortcut "H".
- You can also hide everything else by clicking Temp. hide everything else.
- You can also hide selected building elements from the Scenario Tree.
💡Note: The selection shown in the tree is only displayed for parts, not parent folders. Therefore, if building model elements are housed in parent folders, it may be necessary to use the Expand All option.
Permanently Hide
- Select the objects you want to hide.
- Right-click on the selection, and click Edit BIM element or use the shortcut Ctrl + Double Click
- Click Hide from all milestones to permanently hide the selection
Remove Selection
- Select the objects you want to remove.
- Right-click on the selection, and click Edit BIM element or use the shortcut Ctrl + Double Click
- Click Remove model element to remove the selection from the Scenario.
💡 Note: Deleting elements reduces file size and improves load times, but requires the model to re-sync, which may take a few seconds. The items are not deleted from the source model (stored at the Project level) only removed from the instance of the model used in the Scenario.
