A Scenario is a version of your project, a Project can have multiple Scenarios. It is within a Scenario where users will  plan and validate their construction process and logistics plan with different variables, such as comparing two schedules or a one crane versus two cranes logistics plan; to see what set of variables yield the best results. This article focuses on the Scenario user interface including the 3D viewer, tools, timeline etc.

Navigation Controls & Access Modes

The complete list of navigation controls and keyboard shortcuts is available to users at anytime from within the Scenario. Click the Help (?) icon (1) in the top right corner and select Key Shortcuts (2) to view all available controls.

Navigation Controls

There are 3 navigation modes in cmBuilder Orbit, Fly and Walk; learn more about all three navigation modes here: Navigation Mode. Orbit is the default navigation mode, see below for Orbit Mode navigation controls, to navigate the Scenario. It is highly recommended to use a mouse, instead of relying on a laptop trackpad. 

• Rotate: Left click and drag
• Pan: Right click and drag
• Zoom: Scroll the mouse wheel up or down
• Set Pivot Point: Click the scroll wheel

Access Modes

Scenarios can be accessed in multiple modes including: Edit, Partial Edit and View mode. To change modes click on the dropdown (1) in the upper right and select from the options. For more information about each access mode, see Scenario Access Modes article.

• Editing Mode is active by default when entering a scenario, unless another user is currently editing.
• Partial Edit Mode allows editing of supported objects, such as Zones, 3D Lines, Labels, and Callouts, while another user is active in Edit Mode. 
• Viewing Mode is used when editing is not available.

Scenario and Site Plan Interface

The Scenario interface is organized into several sections that provide access to planning tools, project information, collaboration features, and simulation controls.

The interface is divided into the following areas:

• Navigation Bar (1): Located at the top of the screen, includes Export/Share, Undo/Redo, user mode (View/Edit), and access to additional tools such as History Log and settings
• Main Toolbar (2): Contains the primary tools used to build and manage your Scenario.
• Toolset (3): Access the tools available for the currently selected feature or workflow.
• Scenario Tree (4): Displays your Project and allows you to create, edit, and review the Site Plan.
• 3D Space (5): Create, edit, and review your Site Plan in the interactive 3D workspace.
• Sidesheet (6): View and modify the properties and settings of the selected object or tool.
• Sidesheet Toolbar (7): Access commands related to the selected tool or object.
• View Mode Toggles (8): Switch between the available viewing modes.
• Timeline (9): Review, schedule, and simulate construction activities over time.

Navigation Bar

The Navigation Bar is located across the top of the Scenario and provides quick access to Scenario information, help and learning resources and and quick access functions.

The Navigation Bar includes:

• Breadcrumb Trail (1): Displays the name of the active Scenario, it parent Project, and company homepage.
• Undo / Redo (2): Undo or restore recent changes.
• Active Users & Access Mode (3): Displays users currently viewing or editing the Scenario and indicates the current access mode.
• Export / Share (4): Export outputs from the Scenario or generate a shareable link.
• Help (5): Access help and learning resources like user guide, keyboard shortcuts and support resources.
• User Preferences (6): Manage your account and application preferences.

Main Toolbar

The Main Toolbar provides access to the Scenario Tree and primary tools used to build up the Scenario.

The Main Toolbar includes:

• Scenario Tree (1)
• Drawing Import (2)
• Terrain (3)
• Buildings (4)
• Resources (5)
• Annotate (6)
• Measure (7)
• Project Schedule (8)
• Advanced Tools (9)
• Comments (10)
• App Performance (11)
• Settings (12)

Toolset

Each tool icon in the toolbar contains a Toolset of related tools/features, click or hover on a tool icon to display its Toolset. A Toolset is all the tools available from the Tool icon  on the Main Toolbar.

For example, when Annotate is selected, the Toolset includes Zone, Label, Callout and Line.

Scenario Tree

The Scenario Tree  can be toggled on from the main toolbar (1). It displays all objects within the Scenario.

Use the Scenario Tree to:

• Browse the hierarchy of project objects, by expanding (2) or collapsing (3) categories.
• Search for specific objects (4).
• Select objects for editing.
• Show or hide objects in the 3D Space.
• Tree filtering (5).

3D Space

The 3D Space is the primary workspace where you view, create, edit, and review your Site Plan.

Within the 3D Space, you can:

• Navigate the model using different navigation modes.
• Review the overall construction plan.
• Sketch polylines and polygons for sketch-based features.
• Uses move rotate and adjustment handles to position Resources, BIM Imports, Annotations and more.
• Modify terrain using Earthwork Operations and custom terrain features.

Sidesheet

The Sidesheet displays the properties and configuration options for the selected object or active tool.

Depending on the selected item, the Sidesheet allows you to:

• Edit object options/edit tool settings. 
• View object properties.
• Sequence objects based to Milestones.
• Switch between available configuration panels.

Sidesheet Toolbar

The Sidesheet Toolbar provides access to commands related to the selected tool or object. The available actions vary, depending on whether a tool or object is selected as well as which tool or object type. For example, selecting a building, terrain object, or annotation displays different sets of available actions.

Use the Sidesheet Toolbar to:

• Access commands for the selected tool or object like Move, Rotate, Edit sketch, and more.
• Perform context-specific actions without leaving the current workflow.

View Mode Toggles

Each of the View Mode Toggles allow users to switch between two different view modes like 2D vs 3D, Sequencing helper and more. Use these controls to change how the Site Plan is displayed while reviewing or editing your Scenario.

Timeline

The Timeline is located at the bottom of the Site Plan and is used to review and simulate construction activities over time. Visit the Timeline section of the user guide to learn more.
