0.11 Advanced Duplicate

Available with the Following Subscriptions: Premium, Enterprise
Available for the Following Roles: All roles

Advanced Duplicate allows copy and paste of 3D objects within a Scenario, between Scenarios in the same Project or between Scenarios inĀ different Projects, while maintaining 3D position data and also accounting for possible differences in sequencing/milestones. The feature enables users to reuse data from existing Scenarios, and makes it possible to merge the work of two Scenarios in to one.

Advanced Duplicate enables users to copy and paste 3D objects within a Scenario, between Scenarios in the same Project or between Scenarios inĀ different Projects, as well as between different company spaces. The tool includes a milestone mapping interface upon paste to ensure the objects can be seamlessly integrated into the destination Scenario's timeline without disrupting the existing sequencing. 3D position and Milestone data are all also copied along with the 3D.Ā

Not every object found in a given Scenario tree can be copied/pasted using advanced duplicate.

  • The following object types and their position data can be copied from one Scenario to another, in the same or different ProjectsĀ using Advance Duplicate: Scan Imports, Massing's, 3D Lines, Drawing Overlays, Zones, Labels, Callouts and Resources including their visual graphs.
  • The following object types cannot be copied using Advance Duplicate: Terrain Modifiers, Excavation Operations,Ā BIM Models, and Surrounding Massings.

Using Advanced Duplicate

Using Advanced Duplicate begins with copying the objects that need to be duplicated from the source Scenario, followed by pasting them to a destination Scenario and confirming the Milestone mapping.

šŸ’”Note: To use the copy-paste functionality in cmBuilder, your browser needs permission to access your clipboard, to enable clipboard access, follow the user guide section Clipboard Access for Copy-Paste.

  1. In the source Scenario select the objects you wish to duplicate and then copy them either by pressing the Ctrl + C keys, or right clicking and selecting Copy. Multi-select is allowed; by holding the Ctrl key and making a selection from the tree or 3D by clicking & dragging the mouse in the 3D editor to create a selection trap which is the fastest way to multi-select objects in 3D.

  2. Switch ScenariosĀ to the destination Scenario which can be in the same Project or a different Project. It is recommended to have bothĀ Scenarios open at the same time, ideally in different windows to minimize user wait times and verify paste results sooner.

  3. In the destinationĀ Scenario paste the copied objects. Pasting is a two step process, the first is to validate the paste selection, and the second is to set the milestone mapping as needed. Only then will the objects will be pasted into the destination Scenario.

Users will need to validate their selection before pasting, this can be done by pasting the copied objects via one of the methods below to launch the Advanced duplicate (3) side sheet.Ā
      • Pressing the Ctrl + V keys (except for when pasting in the same Scenario).
      • Right clicking and selecting Paste (except for when pasting in the same Scenario).
      • From the "Advanced Tools" (1) command on the left side of the screen users can select "Advanced Duplicate" (2), this will always launch the Advanced duplicate (3) side sheet which displays the clipboard containing a list of all copied items.

Upon pasting, the Advanced duplicate side sheet (3) will appear listing the objects and the quantity of each to be pasted. Click the "X" (4) beside an object to exclude it from being pasted, click Next (5).

  4. The objects will appear in 3D (1) but have not yet been fully pasted into the Scenario, users must first confirm the Milestone mapping in the Advanced duplicate side sheet (2).
        • The Source milestones (3) column lists Milestones pertaining to sequencing of the objects visibility and animations as defined in the source Scenario.
        • The Destination milestones (4) column lists the proposed equivalent new Milestones that objects will be sequenced to upon pasting. Users can use the dropdowns (5) to alter the Milestones in the case that the two Scenarios have different Project Schedules.
        • Click the Duplicate button (6), and the objects will be pasted in the Scenario.
