Available with the Following Subscriptions: All Subscriptions
Available for the Following Roles: Project Admin (Note: You need to be an Admin for the specific Project you are looking to update the map for. You can check this under Project Settings > Project Roles)
For existing Projects you can update the map data to change the project address location, map tile size, topography type (topographic, flat, Google 3D Tile), and thickness. All Scenarios will be affected.
⚠️WARNING: Changing a map tile (especially from Mapbox to Google, or vice versa) will almost certainly result in a shift in elevation of all Scenario elements in all Scenarios within a Project. This will require manual intervention to correct and could be a significant amount work because all Massings, Resources, BIM Models, Annotations, Excavations, etc. will need to be repositioned in elevation.
Instructions
1. From a Project Overview page click on the Edit Map button (1).
3. The map setup process will restart and you can make changes to the map tile size and position. Click and drag on the map (1) to reposition the center of the map tile. Click and drag on the corner handles (2) to adjust the size, or choose from the preset sizes on the right (3). Click Generate 3D Map (4) to move on to map tile Terrain Settings.
- Changing address or the location of the map center: This might cause some conflicts as some elements in your scenario are referencing the map origin for location and might shift along with the change
- Changing map size: Assuming the origin remains the same, this won't cause any issues for most of the cases as it will simply scale the map from the origin point. The only feature affected by this change is the Drawing Overlay as it will need to be rescaled.
4. Terrain settings offers 3 types of map tiles: Topographic, Flat, Google 3D Tiles. You can explore the differences of each during this stage via 3D navigation controls, you may zoom, rotate and pan to inspect the map tile in 3D. After making your selection click Update Map Settings to complete the process and apply the changes to all Scenarios within the Project.
-
Topographic maps are generated via Mapbox.
- The elevation at any point on a topographic surface is an approximate elevation.
- Neighboring buildings will appear as white blocks known as Surrounding Massings.
- Ensure map thickness is greater than the depth of the deepest excavation expected.
-
Flat maps are generated via Mapbox.
- The elevation at any point will be zero (sea level), change this by setting the desired ground elevation.
- Neighboring buildings will appear as white blocks known as Surrounding Massings.
- Ensure map thickness is greater than the depth of the deepest excavation expected.
-
Google 3D Tiles via Google integration *Must first activate Google Integration*
- Double click a point on the map to change the center point, use the slider to adjust the size.
- Note: Google 3D Tiles do not allow terrain customizations. Excavation operations are allowed.
- Credit for use of Google data can be automatically attributed to Google via Attribution upon export.
Reload surrounding buildings
After making changes to the map, for the Mapbox Topographic and Flat maps you may need to adjust the Surrounding Massings (white Buildings) - they may show up as floating for example due to the change in elevations of the map - you can:
1. Load the scenario, click on the Surrounding Massing folder to select them all and delete them.
2. Right click on the folder (1), and select Reset surroundings to original (2). (note that it wont edit existing massings, just load in the ones you have removed)
