Learn about the management and storage of uploaded project files.
Summary
- Centrally store uploaded project files accessible across scenarios
- Independently manage building model files per scenario, where adding or removing a building model file will not affect other scenarios
- Access the Documents page from the Project left side menu
Import 3D Building Models
There are two methods of importing building model files to a scenario:
- Upload to Documents and then add from within the scenario
- Upload a new file from within the scenario
1. Import from Documents
- Upload model files to the Documents page, shown above
- Once stored in documents, the model files can be accessed and imported into any scenario
- Open the scenario
- Go to Buildings, followed by BIM Imports
- Click From project or From integration
- Select the appropriate model from the stored files and then click Load
2. Import new file
- From within Scenario
- Go to Buildings, followed by BIM Import
- Click Upload File and browse (Open) from local files
- The file is added to Documents, and hence accessible to other scenarios, but only active in that scenario unless manually added in another scenario
File Management
To archive models:
- Archive models from within Documents; however, the model will remain in existing scenarios
- To remove from the scenario as well, use Remove from scenario
To remove models from a scenario:
- Click the three dots on the model card
- Select Remove from scenario
- This will disable the model in that particular scenario; but remain active in both documents and other scenarios (if it is used)
- As mentioned in the pop-up below, this will also lose the sequencing of this scenario
FAQ
1. Can I delete BIM model files?
No, BIM model files cannot be permanently deleted in cmBuilder.
You can archive model files from the Documents section, which removes them from active use but keeps them available in the system. Archived models remain accessible in Documents and can still be used in existing scenarios.
To remove a model from a scenario, this must be done within the scenario under Imported Models. This does not delete the model file from the Project.
💡 Note: Only Projects can be permanently deleted. Model files can only be archived, not deleted.
