10.4 Exporting Videos

Available with the Following Subscriptions: Standard, Premium, Enterprise

Available for the Following Roles: All Roles

In this tutorial, learn how to export videos to share with stakeholders, providing an alternative or addition to shared links for presentations and documentation.

❗ Note: Firefox and Safari do not currently support recording a tab, so video export is not available for these browsers.

Summary

  1. Click on the Share button on the top right of the Site Plan
  2. Select Presentation videos
  3. Set export configurations:
    • Video Quality (1): Controls video bitrate. Lowering the quality will produce a smaller file size but may produce a more choppy video.
    • Recording Speed (2): To get smoother (higher frame rate) output for your video, first record at a reduced speed. Read more about increasing the final output's smoothness in the section below.
  4. Click Next
  5. Confirm the tab in the next screen selection and click Allow
    • NOTE: This screen may differ depending on your browser settings. Ensure you select the correct tab by toggling between selections.
  6. Click the play button to start the recording.

After your presentation, the video file will automatically download in WebM format. This video file format is compatible with most devices, and can be converted to other formats using video editing software.

Follow this video to learn the best practices for exporting videos of your site simulations from cmBuilder:

Increase the smoothness of the final output (FPS)

This is most useful for heavy scenarios that are slow and choppy.

Set a slower speed for the initial recording and use a video editor to post-process and return the speed back to normal.

  1. Select a slower speed for the initial recording
    • For example, if your current FPS = 15 and the ideal output is 60 FPS. Select a Recording speed of 1/4
    • To get an idea of how much to slow down, use the App Performance tab to see the current FPS.
    • Select the slow-down factor based on the ratio of the current FPS to the desired final output.
  2. The final output will be the slow-downed version when the recording is completed.
  3. Use a video processing software to speed it back up to the original speed.
    • Some recommended software options are: iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, and Camtasia.
