How to copy objects to a nearby project, while keeping the same global location

Available with the Following Subscriptions: Premium and Enterprise Only (for the use of Advanced Duplicate)
Available for the Following Roles: Project Admin, Project Editor

In some cases, you may have several projects with overlapping tiles. This may be due to a larger overview project with smaller projects that represent more detailed sections. Or you may be working on a long horizontal project, where tiles overlap at major intersections or other areas of interest.

In either case, there may be situations in which you wish to copy objects across projects, and have them in the same exact location on the other project, even though the center of the tiles are in different locations.

This can be done by setting up the Project Coordinates for both tiles, and using the Advanced Duplicate function.

1. Setup your first Local Project Coordinate System

You will need to choose which project you want to define the coordinate system is. It may work best if you use your larger project.

  1. In your project, open the Coordinate system panel.
  2. Add a Local project coordinate system (and pick a name if you want).
  3. Make sure it becomes your active coordinate system.
  4. Define the origin you wish to use for your project (you can keep at 0 if you want as well. You can also set an angle if you want).
  5. Add the coordinate system.

2. Grab the geocoordinate data from the first project

  1. Now that it is saved, open the coordinate system you created using the three dot menu on the right.
  2. And choose Edit.
  3. Set the Coordinate system for origin position to use a geocoordinate system (wont affect your project, you can choose any).
  4. Copy the two geocoordinate values that show up below.

3. Create the matching coordinates in your second project

  1. Go to the second project you are copying between.
  2. In your project, open the Coordinate system panel.
  3. Add a Local project coordinate system (and pick a name if you want).
  4. Make sure it becomes your active coordinate system.
  5. Set the Coordinate system for origin position to use the same geocoordinate system (it must match).
  6. Paste the values from your other project (also paste the angle if you added one).
  7. Add the coordinate system.

4. Now you can copy objects across projects

Copy from your source scenario, paste in your destination scenario, and follow the steps of Advanced Duplicate.
